Censorship and Misinformation
It seems that no matter what MSM(mainstream media) channel we turn to, there is a discussion of Jimmy Dore or Joe Rogan and especially prevalent on democrat-aligned stations is the discussion of censorship of people labeled as spreading "misinformation". Unfortunately, this narrative of censorship has seemingly permeated leftist circles and is gaining support. In this article, I'll attempt to discuss the misinformation fallacy and the dangers of censorship.
Before discussing censorship, it is highly important to discuss the fallacy of misinformation. The fallacy of misinformation can have its origins traced back to the aftermath of the 2016 election and the " Russiagate" saga. Right after democrats began investigating "Russian interference" in the 2016 elections, groups like RT, Sputnik, and many others began receiving notes on their respective YouTube channels informing viewers that the channel is "Funded in part or whole by the Russian government". These labels were only the precursor to further actions taken against YouTube channels, twitter, Facebook accounts, and countless other platforms cracking down on " misinformation". You see, the fallacy of misinformation is this if you speak out against the mainstream narrative you are attacked for misinformation. The truth is that labeling people as spreading misinformation is just another way to control the official narrative and keep alternate information out of the hands of the populous.
There is an inherent danger in labeling people you disagree with or that share an alternate viewpoint as misinformation. The danger is that the word misinformation is highly subjective and can be molded to fit any narrative needed. That is also the inherent danger of censorship.
As stated earlier, CNN, MSNBC, and other Democrat-aligned channels are beginning to call for the censorship of folks like Rogan and Dore. They of course craft the narrative that it is for the common good of people and to help fight this pandemic, but the truth is they are not parroting the official narrative. Rogan and Dore have multiple times stated their support of the use of ivermectin and other treatments which other countries including our southern neighbor have been using with great success. The danger here is the precedent that this sets up and we as leftists should recognize this and be speaking out against it. We as leftists see that the Democrats are going to face a bloodbath in the midterms and that means that the republican party will likely gain control of the house and senate. In that scenario, what could they use the precedent to censor? Would it be those speaking out against the racism and abuse at the hands of cops? Would it be those standing for bodily autonomy and the right for people to access birth control or abortions? Would it be the anti-war activists and their words against US imperialism?
We've seen this time and time again that if we give them an inch, they'll take a mile. This applies to both major parties and their actions. Censorship is a dangerous situation, one which risks us being silenced for what we fight for, and one which risks us not having a medium to spread our message.
While you may not agree with what some people say, you should also recognize that being silenced by the government or big tech is a threat to us all. It is a threat that will allow their agenda to progress forward without rebuttal and one which will be the death of our movement.
Lastly, we recognize that the MSM is pushing information that supports their chosen parties' platforms, platforms that are bought by big pharma, the MIC(military-industrial complex), and countless other corporations. The narrative that the MSM spews is without a doubt the most obvious form of misinformation we have. One which is used to sway the public opinions of our politicians, central and south American nations, and even ways to protect ourselves from COVID. It is misinformation that is used to generate countless millions of dollars at the cost of people's lives.
Reject censorship and recognize the true source of misinformation.
